Firefighters have been combating perilous conditions at the scene of a factory fire in Harlow today (April 26). 8 fire engines rushed to River Way close to dawn today.

As reported by the Essex County Fire and Rescue, the industrial building measuring 50m x 50m was on fire upon their arrival, and was completely smoke-logged. Crews have acknowledged that access to the premises is “very limited”.

Six fire engines responded at first, and 2 more reached the scene by 9am. Coworkers from Hertfordshire and the London Fire Brigade are also on the spot.

People in the neighbourhood have been told to keep their doors and windows shut, and drivers have been asked to stay away from the area for the foreseeable. Clouds of smoke can be noticed for miles across Harlow.

A report from the fire service said: “Access to the building is extremely restricted and crews from Essex and Hertfordshire are doing their best in hard and difficult conditions to tackle the fire as swiftly as possible. This is an ongoing incident and we expect disturbance to traffic in the area for quite some time.
